Try old Liz Phair, not her new pop stuff. It's okay, but not the Liz I love.

Elliott Smith
Have you ever listened to Andrew Morgan? He is Elliott Smith's disciple so to speak and has an album called Misadventures in Radiology that probably as good as anything Smith has done. One of the hidden gems of this decade really.

I recommended him Exit To Guyville actually or whatever her first album is called. Then I realized he wants stuff like Avril Lavigne, that kind of chick rock.
Incidentally Fuck and Run is in my top 10 most listened songs on my iPod. I am so sad.
Also I have pretty much been listening to Animal Collective all day. They are quickly becoming one of my favourite bands of all time and I've been on a huge kick of theirs for most of the week, but I'm not even bored.

Exit to Guyville is her best. Fuck and Run is a great song! However, I can't help but sing H.W.C. in the office all day, it gets stuck in my head.
I've never heard of Andrew Morgan, but now I will have to go listen!

I listened to the EP I got of Jaguar Love, which is two main guys from Blood Brothers and the black guy from Pretty Girls Make Graves together and...ugh. It was horrible. Blood Brothers is tolerable hardcore, Pretty Girls Make Graves is fine indie rock (or post-punk, which is the gay label everyone gives them). But they let one of the guys from Blood Brothers sing and he is horrible. Ringy, you'd probably hate him more than Coheed and Cambria's vocalist if you want a comparison as to how bad he is.

Animal Collective is very much an album band. Granted there are a few songs that are awesome to hear on their own but for the most part you need to listen to a whole album to get the feel.

I don't hate the Co&Ca singer. I even like some of their songs!
I've spent most of the day listening to Deerhunter's new leak, which is tremendous. I've also been listening to Wayne Hussey (who's got an awesome, awesome cover of the Cure A Night Like This on his album, amongst others) and to Air France, which is good for summer. Oh I've also listened to the odd bit of Yes as well.

Well, I mentioned Coheed because Jaguar Love's lead singer has a screechingly high voice, except the guy tries to have a Kevin Barnes-like style with his voice and it's horrible.

Yeah, they definitely get better and more tolerable the more you listen to their stuff.
I listened a lot to The Futureheads's "Radio Heart". Nice to see that they make one awesomely catchy song an album as this seems to be the one that stands out from their new record.

I actually heard about the 15th anniversary reissue of Exile in Guyville, and me being the type of guy who'll listen to any female singer-songwriter, and knowing that it is supposed to be her penultimate CD, I was not disappointed. Great stuff and "Fuck and Run" remains a standout track.

Yeah, I'm very impressed. I only heard "Why Can't I" before then and thought it tolerable mediocre pop, but after hearing those records and the raw sound of Phair's songwriting and lyrics, it's quite understandable why fans despised her going pop.
I hope to listen to some Santogold soon, as I have to be late to trends by about three months (or 15 years).

ooooo Why Can't I almost turned me off. Mediocre pop is a kind way to put it. The thing I love so much about Liz is her in your face, eyebrow raising lyrics. Her pop stuff is best left to the teenyboppers that listen to it.
Santogold is lovely. I love her wide range of musical styles.
What I'm listening to today?
Jason Mraz - He just soothes me on days when I need petting.
